Mommy, Can We Run Through The Rain?

Words and music by Jeanne Loehnis

“Mommy, can we run through the pouring rain?”
My little girl asked with a smile.
“Let’s wait a few more moments, let it slow down.”
So we waited a short little while.

“Mommy can we run through the rain?” she asked.
“Honey, we’ll get wet if we do. “
“But that’s not what you said when Daddy asked
about his cancer, and me, and you.”

You said, “God will take care of us.
	We’ll be just fine.
And I know what you said is true ‘cause
	Mommies never lie.”

My heart skipped a beat and I turned within
for guidance I knew would be true.
“Honey, you’re so right, we’ll let God decide
if we need washing today - rain will do!”

Do you run in the rain, let your plans get wet?
And do you bend when Spirit calls and trust Spirit’s net?
Do you live in the moment and seize every chance
to be one with the blessings of sweet Spirit’s dance?

When Mother Nature shows her colors true,
do you stop, look around and just gaze?
Accept the miracle God is giving to you,
or stay focused on work that pays?

Do you run in the rain, let your plans get wet?
And do you bend when Spirit calls and trust Spirit’s net?
Do you live in the moment and seize every chance
to be one with the blessings of sweet Spirit’s dance?

And when a friend stops by unexpectedly
are you ready to lend her an ear?
Or are you more inclined just to state your case
that you are busy with no time to spare?

Do you run in the rain, let your plans get wet?
And do you bend when Spirit calls and trust Spirit’s net?
Do you live in the moment and seize every chance
to be one with the blessings of sweet Spirit’s dance?

Will you run in the rain with me, let your plans get wet?
And will you bend when Spirit calls and trust Spirit’s net?
Will you live in the moment, treat each one as new ...
and let yourself receive the blessings God has for you.
