At home I watch you as you play,
I hear you laugh, I hear you say, “I wonder… I wonder.”
You wonder how the robin flies
and why the sunshine hurts your eyes. You wonder, you wonder.
And I see excitement on your face.
And I see with joy it is that you embrace … this life.
You ask me how the telephone rings
and why the flower blooms in spring. You wonder. You wonder.
You wonder when you’ll grow to be
so big that you can work with me. You wonder. You wonder.
And I see excitement on your face.

You wonder how to tie your shoe,
and sew a seam and use the glue. You wonder. You wonder.
You wonder how to write your name
and count to ten and play the game. You wonder. You wonder.
And I watch that I might learn to play.
Learn to smile and laugh and learn to celebrate…
I wonder how it used to be
when I was young and I was free? I wonder. I wonder.
I wonder how it feels to be
so free to laugh and free to be. I wonder. I wonder.
So I watch intently as you play.
For I know that I can join you any day!
